The first outcome, in line with the directives established by UNESCO, is constituted by the archaeological structures’ database, which is a thorough census and computer storing of all known structures in the northern area of Saqqara.

Moreover, as we will explain below, such structures were geo-referred, thus making the localisation of buried or topographically forgotten structures possible.

During this phase, in addition to finding existing data, it was necessary to realise instruments to detect the state of preservation of the monuments in north Saqqara, and thus their actual vulnerability, identifying three levels of study:

  • for the first level, which included all the published monuments, almost only cartographic instruments were adopted;

  • for the second level, which included thirteen tombs peculiar to different periods, architectural typologies and damages suffered, files and thematic maps about their conditions were drawn up;

  • finally, for the third level, which included three tombs, equipment for instrumental monitoring on field was used.
